Nassebe was the sister of Mustafa Chatzi-hasanoglou (1827-1915), the local Turkish governor. This family decided in 1884 to support Christians and also became Christians themselves.
The estate was hosting by that time the whole group of guards who supported the Mustafa governship. The building had autonomy in surviving. There were stables for the horses, well for drinking water, wood oven for bread baking, storing rooms for olive oil, wine and other foodstuff, hamam for leisure time.
The estate was reconstructed between 2005-2008 by the architect Minos Alefantinos, owner of the property.
The village was settled somewhere around 961-1204 by byzantine visitors.
The church of Panagia in the village is known to having been build in the 13th century. Ai Giannis is first mentioned in the 1577 traveler notebook of Fr. Barozzi as the settlement of “San Zuanne” with 119 inhabitants. In 1630, the traveler Vasilicata refers to the village as “San Giovanni”.
In the Turkish population census of 167` we know that the village is called “Ayo Yani”.
The area was under the Venetian occupation until 1646, when it was conquered by the Othoman Empire.
